University Mall of South Burlington recently asked the public to nominate Vermonters who demonstrate excellence in community service and encourage others to do the same.  After reviewing many dedicated folks from all around our region, the three 2011 Community Achievement Awards recipients include :  Susan Winsor, a mother of three from Newark Vermont, who has completely immersed herself in community life.  From school fund-raising to involvement with her church choir and youth groups, Susan truly believes that anyone can find happiness with involvement in the community.  Second, Katy & Tim Landwehr of Rochester, VT, donate their time to the Center for Valley Youth and the town’s recreation committee, in an effort to help educate youth about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.  Finally, Carrie Spear owns Spear’s Corner Store, which she operates more as a town center with homegrown social events, most notably the East Charlotte Tractor Parade which she began as a way to celebrate our local farmers and their contribution to our state.  Our three winners will each receive $500 toward a local charity that they are involved with.  It’s folks like these who make Vermont truly a wonderful place to live and play.
