Poplar Plaza is located in the geographical center of Memphis, Tennessee, and sits on Poplar Avenue, the main thoroughfare of the city. The center was constructed in 1948 and has remained a premier retail center for more than 60 years. Poplar Plaza is often considered the genesis of the outdoor strip mall in the southern region and, according to architectural historian Kenneth Jackson, was the first of its kind and size in the nation. As a result, it has become a Memphis landmark. Sitting on 28 acres and comprised of 10 buildings, the plaza offers over 50 tenants, five restaurants, and a 40,000 square foot fitness center. Working with Kroger, Finard Properties has overseen the most recent transformation of Poplar Plaza, as the center has been redeveloped to serve generations to come. The center is anchored by national tenants such as Kroger, PETCO, Old Navy, Party City, and K&G Men’s (a division of Men’s Wearhouse).
